S-Metolachlor is highly effective against annual grass weeds, such as crabgrass, barnyardgrass, green foxtail, goosegrass, and Chinese sprangletop.

S-Metolachlor also controls certain small-seeded broadleaf weeds, including redroot pigweed, purslane, black nightshade, and lambsquarters.

S-Metolachlor inhibits the synthesis of very-long-chain fatty acids in the shoots and roots of weeds, disrupting the formation of cell membranes and structures. This causes weeds to die before emergence, during emergence, or shortly after emerging from the soil.

S-Metolachlor performs best in clay loam soils with moderate organic matter content.

In sandy soils or soils with very low organic matter content (<1%), the herbicide is prone to leaching or unstable adsorption. Therefore, it should be used with caution or at reduced rates to avoid crop injury or reduced efficacy.
