Glyphosate, with the chemical name N-(phosphonomethyl)glycine and the chemical formula C₃H₈NO₅P, is a systemic, broad-spectrum, non-selective herbicide [1-2]. It is an organophosphorus compound, specifically a phosphonate. It is used to kill weeds, especially annual broadleaf weeds that compete with crops.

Glyphosate is a non-selective, residue-free, non-selective (killing) herbicide that is highly effective against perennial root weeds and is widely used in rubber, mulberry, tea, orchard, and sugarcane fields. It mainly inhibits the enzyme enolpyruvylshikimate phosphate synthase (EPSPS) in plants, thereby blocking the conversion of shikimate to phenylalanine, tyrosine, and tryptophan, interfering with protein synthesis and leading to plant death. Glyphosate is absorbed through the stems and leaves and then translocated to various parts of the plant. It can control plants of more than 40 families, including monocotyledons and dicotyledons, annuals and perennials, herbs and shrubs. After entering the soil, glyphosate quickly binds to metal ions such as iron and aluminum and loses its activity.

For controlling weeds in apple orchards, peach orchards, vineyards, pear orchards, tea plantations, mulberry fields, and idle farmland, it is effective against annual weeds such as barnyardgrass, foxtail, shortawn foxtail, goosegrass, crabgrass, cocklebur, lambsquarters, chickweed, and bedstraw.

Annual weeds (such as barnyardgrass, foxtail, crabgrass, lambsquarters, and bedstraw): Apply 100–150 g of 50% WDG per mu, diluted in about 50 kg of water, and spray uniformly during the period of vigorous weed growth.

Perennial weeds (such as cogon grass, bermudagrass, and purple nutsedge): Increase the rate to 200–300 g per mu. For particularly stubborn and troublesome weeds, a second application one month after the first is recommended to improve eradication efficacy.
