Gentamicin 1403-66-3

Gentamicin is one of the few thermally stable antibiotics and is therefore widely used in culture medium preparation. Gentamicin is an alkaline compound extracted from the fermentation broth of the Actinobacteria family, and is a commonly used aminoglycoside antibiotic. Mainly used for treating bacterial infections, especially infections caused by Gram negative bacteria. Gentamicin can bind to the 30s subunit of bacterial ribosomes, blocking bacterial protein synthesis.

Function and Application
Gentamicin has antibacterial effects on Gram negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis, some indole positive Proteus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, some Neisseria aeruginosa, some colorless Serratia and Shigella. Among Gram positive bacteria, Staphylococcus aureus (including beta lactase producing strains) is sensitive to this product; Streptococcus (including Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus faecalis, etc.) are resistant to this product. Anaerobic bacteria (Bacteroidetes), Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Rickettsia, fungi, and viruses are also resistant to this product. In recent years, due to the widespread use of this product, the number of drug-resistant strains has gradually increased, with high resistance rates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Serratia marcescens, and Indra positive Proteobacter to this product. Gentamicin is mainly used for systemic or local infections caused by gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Shigella dysenteriae, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ineffective against central infections).
